Even with a routine in place I work hard to make every day a good one for Eric. He gets excited easily and I found out that if we leave relaxing activities closer to his sleep time (like going for a stroll), then he is more likely to settle without a fight.

It is also important to let him discharge all his energy, so I let him crawl until he is too tired to move. That takes about 30 minutes and after that he is happy to rest a little in his bouncer, sipping water or juice.

By the evening bedtime a warm bath is very helpful, luckily he likes the water and loves the little rubber toy-fishes. Actually, bath is the only place where he is relaxed enough to let me massage him, but hey – whatever works.
