If I went in and tried to soothe them or calm them down, it would only make it A LOT worse. I know a lot of moms would think I'm an awful person for doing that, but it worked like a charm and they still love me! I should mention that I had a bedtime routine established almost since day 1 so it only took a few nights of crying before they went to sleep on their own. My oldest slept with me until no one was getting any sleep which as was 18 months old. His dad spent 3 nights laying him down and patting his back until he fell asleep and eventually it just clicked. He'll be three in 2 weeks and still has his bouts where he doesn't want to fall asleep on his own. I have no tips.
