I started organically introducing the potty (not the toilet) at 19 mos. They used it as a toy and now understand to sit on it. Sometimes I know when they need to go, like after a bath, and they roll w/it. Other times, well... let's just say the Pampers Overnights are stocked. They can tell me when they feel like they need to go but can't make it in time. For me, that tells me to back off. So, I gave up for now. I never force these kids, ever. Good luck sweetie! They can tell me when they feel like they need to go but can’t make it in time.

For me, that tells me to back off. So, I gave up for now. I never force these kids, ever.

To them, a potty is a chore that comes with all of what you mentioned. To us, it's a milestone (and a pretty cute one, at that). It's all about efficiency at daycare; all about (in baby voice), "Oh, look at what the baby did. Did he go potty? Yes, he did go potty. He's a good little potty baby!" The poor kid is probably looking at the toilet like, "Uh, what's this thing and is it going to swallow me?" Oh, the daycare damage we must undo!
